About the Dutch photographer, Bertien VAN MANEN
Bertien van MANEN came to photography almost by chance when she was taking pictures of her children with an old camera. As her work became more public, she was soon drawn into the world of fashion photography. In 1977 she was tired of the industry, and when Bertien van MANEN discovered documentary photography by Robert FRANK and Josef KOUDELKA, he began to explore the developing relationship between himself and her subjects, maintaining closeness and adopting a personal, organic style of photography develop. She has already made several photo books.
