Background Information
"According to the dictionary, 'confabulations' are memory disorders that produce distorted memories of oneself and the world without conscious intent to deceive. (...)
'Subjectivity is not the main component of the images,' writes Ina Blom about Torbjörn RODLAND's work 'even when it disappears behind abstraction. It is quite simply one point among many. The camera, with its attendant palette of lenses, aperture settings, lighting devices and film types, is another part. [...] The glossy image thrives as an independent existence, separate from actual structural realities - as if speaking of a material world it can never quite recognize.'
Content
In the photo volume 'Confabulations', Torbjörn RODLAND presents a series of analog photographs that subtly distort fractured memories and childhood fantasies.
'Confabulations' distorts facts to arrive at the truth. Fragmentation is neither rejected nor intended, but seen as a starting point for new connections. Among a million silly memories, RODLAND searches for a new soul." (slightly adapted text, © Mack books, 2016)ng point for new connections.
