About the German artist - blacksmith, photographer, sculptor and writer - Fritz KÜHN (1910-1967)

After his school education, Fritz KÜHN first completed an apprenticeship as a toolmaker starting in 1924. At the same time he began to take photographs. In 1927 he met the entrepreneur Karl Schmidt, who encouraged his self-employment. In 1937 he passed the master's examination as an art blacksmith and opened a studio-workshop in Berlin-Bohnsdorf. In 1947 Fritz KÜHN published his first photographic work, '10 Jahre Kunstschmiede Fritz Kühn', expressing his attachment to iron as a material. His works of art quickly gained international recognition. In 1964 he was appointed professor at the College of Fine and Applied Arts in Berlin. Fritz KÜHN died in East Berlin on July 31, 1967.
