Background information
Lois Auer, moisture farmer from Herrenberg in the Ahrntal Valley, was a mountain farmer whose work was dictated by the seasons and the weather. Someone who never left his farm or the valley because there was too much work. He ran the Feuchthof am Herrenberg with his old mother Anna, just as his ancestors had done for centuries and to whom he felt obliged. Lois Auer died in 2010.

The book 'Hartes Leben auf der Höh' by Michael KERSTGENS tells the story of an unusual person, of his work, his life and his loneliness. The South Tyrolean journalist Gabriel Grüner and German photographer Michael KERSTGENS made a report about the Ahrntal mountain farmers for the magazine 'Stern'. The collaboration ended with a promise: Feuchter, as the farmer in the valley was called, didn't want a book until after his death.
