Background information, content
"An impressive photographic depiction of controversial developments in the Alpine region. Home, energy, leisure, transit, economy and ecology are the themes of Hans Peter JOST's images of the Swiss Alps, taken over the last three years as part of his project 'Alpen-Blicke.ch'. An impressive selection of them is presented in this book of the same name, which tells of encounters with mountain dwellers and tourists, showing the bizarre and the thoughtful, the critical and the endearing. The photographs are accompanied by an introduction by Mario F. Broggi, former president of CIPRA, the International Commission for the Protection of the Alps. Journalist and writer Erwin Koch portrays two people who, for all their differences, both have a very close relationship with the mountains. Author Emil Zopfi looks at energy production in the Alps, and TV journalist Helmut Scheben takes a critical look at their steadily progressing mutation into a gigantic amusement park." "The snow-covered Lukmanier Pass with its sparse pine forests is no more an amusement park for speeding snowmobile clubs than Zurich's Grossmünster is a place for slot machines. And the grandiose Monte-Rosa-Dent-Blanche glacier landscape must not be a place where well-heeled consumers buy a quick deep-snow adventure while heliskiing." (© Helmut SCHEBEN)
Book Reviews
"Wait a minute! the illustrated book 'Alpen-Blicke.ch' by Hans Peter JOST calls out to us, fresh and cheeky, lively and admonishing. The last photo shows the exit through turnstiles at the Gornergratbahn, a red cow with Swiss crosses and Wolli, the mascot of Zermatt, are waiting beyond the barrier, and at the very back Dent Blanche and Obergabelhorn are standing, still and silent. Welcome to the Playground of Switzerland!" (© Daniel ANKER, in: www.bergliteratur.ch)
"Actually, everyone should be happy with this book, who is interested in the Alps and is willing to take a different view for once." (© Anja HOENEN, in: bild-akademie.de)
