Background information
"In 1985, Karen MARSHALL began photographing a group of teenage girls in New York City. Her intention was to show the emotional bonds between 16-year-old girls and to document the symbolic relationships they often develop at that age. Ten months later, Molly, one of the girls in the group, died in a car accident. Marshall then decided to continue the project. Thus, 'Between Girls' evolved into a look at friendship over 30 years.
