From a Female Perspective

For years, former BECHER student Candida HÖFER traveled around the world to photograph public and semi-public libraries. The photographic volume 'Libraries. The Return' brings together an essence of past work and juxtaposes it with current images:

The skin doesn't lie: it is a person's map. Like the paper in this artist's book: it changes, creases or becomes thin and transparent. Strictly limited, various papers-containing, elaborately designed band 'body maps' of Margaret LANSINK was made by hand.

The original edition of '60 Fotos', designed by Jan TSCHICHOLD. Vol #1 of the 'Fototek' series, the first and only photo book by Aenne BIERMANN, contains Franz ROH's important essay 'The literary controversy about photography' in English, French & German.

In her out-of-print photo volume 'A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Mother' German photo artist Katharina BOSSE openly deals with a blind spot of a society that otherwise does not shy away from interventions in the private sphere: the birth of a mother.

In 'Eternal Chase' neither composition, exposure nor focal length are in focus, these are secondary. Tamiko NISHIMURA leaves it up to the object to show itself. In contrast to the spiritual expectation at the selection, she took a lot of time to fix it.

Out-of-print 'Moments in History' focuses on those works Margaret BOURKE-WHITE made in the 1930s and 40s in Czechia, Germany, Italy, the Soviet Union as well as in the UK. It shows photographs and excerpts from letters as well as publications in magazines

Paola de PIETRI's photographs in the photo book 'New Istanbul Stories' document the effects of the changing urban landscape of Istanbul on people. Posture and language reflect the unstable state of mind of a new, very mixed class of native migrants.
