Background information
"Diary-like series, landscape shots and situational mood images - Elina BROTHERUS continues to explore the possibilities of photography in her catalog photo book 'Why Not?
Contents
This image-rich volume with continuing essays traces the Finnish photographer's latest development. Here, Elina BROTHERUS brings together intellectual acuity with humorous lightness, technical precision with lusty spontaneity. Elina BROTHERUS is internationally known for her self-portraits. And indeed, in almost all of her photographic and video works, she can be seen herself. The volume accompanying the solo exhibition in Bremen directs the focus to more recent groups of works that have been created since 2016. In her exploration of contemporary art concepts, she succeeds in creating surprising pictorial inventions. The artistic approaches to Fluxus, John Baldessari, Francesca WOODMAN or to the author W.G. Sebald are sometimes cryptic homage, sometimes critical revision." (publisher's text, © Hirmer Verlag, 2020)
