Background information
"German stereophotographer Leo FROBENIUS traveled to the Congo in 1904-1906 on his first scientific expedition. During his journey he collected objects and photographs. Since his mono camera was constantly broken, his stereo camera was used very often. These photographs are part of the illustrated book 'Im Schatten des Kongo' (In the Shadow of the Congo) edited by Andreas Ackermann, Ute Röschenthaler, Peter Steigerwald, published in 2005, on the occasion of an exhibition at the Museum der Weltkulturen.Content
The photo book 'Im Schatten des Kongo' (In the Shadow of the Congo) contains, in addition to the in-depth texts by Mamadou Diawara and the three editors, a total of 146 3D illustrations in the anaglyph process. Since nothing was to be changed from the historical image material of the Frobenius Institute, retouching and correct mock windowing were omitted. Anaglyph 3D glasses, red/cyan are part of the book.
