A new addition to Louis Vuitton's 'Travel Book' collection, the 'Paris' volume by Brecht EVENS, a talented young Belgian graphic novelist, offers a fresh look at the popular metropolis on the Seine. His more than 100 exclusive illustrations present a visual language that combines multiple layers of watercolor, gouache and drawing ink, and colored pencil drawings.
The work of Brecht EVENS creates a thriving chaos in which the real merges with the fantastic. It is a playground and habitat that is fluid and extreme, where violence inspires and magic turns to nightmare. This 'Travel Book' is a picture book about Paris, the short text at the end of the volume is in French and English." (slightly adapted text, freely translated, © Louis Vuitton, 2016)
About the Belgian cartoonist, Brecht EVENS (b. 1986 in Hasselt)
Born in 1986 in the Dutch city of Hasselt, Brecht EVENS considers himself a cartoonist rather than a painter. The young exceptional talent was only 22 years old when he published 'The Wrong Place', inspired by his thesis at the Luca School of Arts in Ghent. The work was awarded the Willy Vandersteen Prize and the 'Audacity Prize' at the Festival d'Angoulême (2011) and - like its successors, 'The Making Of' as well as 'Panther' - plays with the norms of comics.
