About French Magnum photographer, Raymond DEPARDON (b.1942, in Villefranche-sur-Saone)

From his hometown of Villefranche-sur-Saône to the limits of the Arab world, via Africa and the Far East, Raymond DEPARDON captures images and testimonies that combine poetry and realism. In 1966, along with Gilles CARON, he founds his own photography agency: Gamma. Then, in 1979, he joins MAGNUM Photos. Director as well as photographer, he makes documentaries since the 1960s. His works on the French society, justice, psychiatry or politics are a success. Since 2004, he criss-crosses the roads to take photographs of the French territory with a view camera. This work, untitled 'La France de Raymond Depardon' has been exhibited at the BNF in 2010. Since then, he continues to work on both photography and cinema.
