CORNUT, Cyrus

About the French photographer, Cyrus CORNUT (b. 1977, in Paris)

Cyrus CORNUT is an architect by training. His work is primarily oriented towards the city, its sculpture, its evolutions, its traces, its voids and the human behaviors it induces. In 2006, his first work on Chinese cities was exhibited at the Rencontres Internationales de la photographie d'Arles under the artistic direction of Raymond DEPARDON. In 2007 he becomes a member of the cooperative agency Picturetank until it closed in 2017. In 2010, he participated in the exhibition 'Voyage en périphérie', a work about the landscapes of mass housing in the Ile-de-France. Since 2011, he has focused his research on the importance of plants in urban landscapes, but also on rural nature. This resulted in the series 'Le Voyage d'Alberstein', a collaborative work that attempts a synthesis between different questions about man, his natural, planned or relational environment and the temporal framework in which he moves. Today, he is developing a work with a 4x5 chamber that allows him to take a slow look at urban developments in Asia and France, as well as a more sculptural signature that combines drawings, engravings and photographs. His work is exhibited in France and abroad.
