Background information, statement by the photographer, Joachim GIES
"It is impossible to be refueled at any of these stations; numerous other uses have been found - garages, eateries, shops, housing, or land lie fallow. The defining architectural features of a gas station remained thereby usually visible. If a building is used not high, it is often at a transitional solution. At the end of these plots a more attractive redevelopment are reserved. So disused gas stations gradually disappear." (© Joachim GIES)
