Background information
Werner MANTZ was one of the most sought-after architectural photographers; his photographs were 'outstanding' and followed 'formal-aesthetically clear aspects'.
"Produced on behalf of the Kölner Gemeinnützige AG für Wohnungsbau, now GAG, the pictures today are indispensable testimonies to a chapter of important importance for the history of the city and architecture. For many of the building complexes photographed are no longer preserved or have been permanently altered by later conversions. In the catalog volume 'Architekturphotographie in Köln. 1926-1932' to the exhibition of the same name in the Museum Ludwig (1982), photographs by Werner MANTZ show Cologne buildings from the 1920s and 30s. They 'document the then ultra-modern residential buildings in Cologne.
