Background information
"In 1932, at the age of 24, Henri CARTIER-BRESSON (1908-2004) get his own Leica - and his hitherto casual interest in photography became a passion. With the handy Leica, he managed to break the boundaries between life and art and to invent a new photographic style that reveals the constant flow of perception, the spontaneity of experience. Within the following three years, he created a photographic work that proved to be as original and influential as no other. This hitherto under-researched early work by one of the most famous photographers of the 20th century was the subject of an exhibition in 1987 organized by Peter GALASSI, Curator of Photography at the New York Museum of Modern Art, with Henri CARTIER-BRESSON in close collaboration.
