Background information
"The question of the pictorial evidence of photography is as old as photography itself. After pictorialism had initially tried to align the art of photography according to the rules of painting, around 1920 a new generation returned to the specific characteristics of photography - the ' New seeing 'emerged.
Content
The catalog volume 'Realsurreal. Meisterwerke der Avantgarde-Fotografie: Das Neue Sehen 1920-1950' - only in German! - shows a selection of around 200 masterpieces from the Munich Siegert Collection on photography of the' New Sights' between New Objectivity and Surrealist tendencies, which has never been shown before. The focus is on photography in Germany, Parisian surrealism and the avant-garde scene in Prague. With the help of rare original prints by well-known artists such as WOLS or László MOHOLY-NAGY, the complexity of photography from real to surreal can be rediscovered."
