"Helmut NEWTON always showed a healthy amount of suspicion towards the simple or predictable. The idea of a book the size of a private exhibition, with breathtaking images, Reproduced and printed according to the most modern standards, arose from an open, experimental dialogue between photographer and publisher. 'SUMO', originally published in an edition of 10,000 signed and numbered copies, was sold out soon after its publication and rapidly increased in value many times over Today, individual specimens are represented in numerous important collections around the world, including in the New York Museum of Modern Art.

The book 'SUMO' by Helmut NEWTON, carefully revised by his wife June Newton, contains all 464 images as well as a new booklet that guides us through the history of this major journalistic event - a breathtaking homage to the larger-than-life photographer, now in a more manageable format. The book comes with a booklet in three languages (english, french and German) on the history of its creation

The original 'SUMO' book by Helmut NEWTON from 1999, has been reissued in 2009 (as 10th anniversary edition) and in 2019 again (as 20th anniversary edition), revised and with a booklet on the history of its creation.
