The compendium 'Photographers A-Z' by Hans Michael Koetzle (ed.) is primarily about the culture of the photographic image. However, it also presents photographers whose work goes beyond the merely illustrative and is collected as art by major museums.

ADAMS, ARAKI, AVEDON - this encyclopedia brings together the most famous names and most important books on photography from the past century. Arranged alphabetically, all the greats of the field can be found, from the first representatives of classical modernism to the present.
The 400 entries are richly illustrated with facsimiles from books and magazines. Represented are all photographers who have distinguished themselves with important publications or exhibitions and have made a significant contribution to the culture of the photographic image. Most are from North America and Europe, but pioneers from Japan, China, Latin America, and Africa are also duly acknowledged." (Publisher's text, © Taschen Verlag, 2011)

Additional information

The first edition of 'Photographers A-Z' by Hans-Michael Koetzle was published already in 2011, but only as a German-language edition. In 2015 and 2017, reissues followed - first in English and then in German - but greatly reduced in size, in the so-called Biblioteca Universalis (BU) series.
