Background information
"The art of Dutch photographer Viviane SASSEN moves between opposing Poles. She stages the protagonists of her images in a documentary environment, works with the harsh contrasts of light and shadow that bounce on bright colors, and shows a reality that seems to play in a film set. Her field of work lies at the intersection of fashion, documentary and art photography. The fact that the photo artist spent several years of her childhood in Kenya leaves clear traces in her work: Africa is the subject of her most important and successful photographic work.
Content
Bold and striking are the photographs taken by the Dutch photographer Viviane SASSEN, whose theme in this monograph is Parasomnia, a sleep disorder that causes strange feelings and dreams. With her photographs taken in West and East Africa, she blurs the boundaries between art, fashion and photography. Viviane SASSEN's photo series is both enchanting and exciting, challenging the viewer to invent his own story about the pictures." (freely translated publisher2011,s text, © Prestel Verlag, 2011)
