Background information, content
"Ed van der ELSKEN is considered one of the most important Dutch photographers and filmmakers. Shortly after he began taking photographs in the late 1940s, he moved to Paris and fell under the spell of the bohemian life of Saint-Germain-de-Prés. His authentic photographs of life on the streets sparkle with joie de vivre, but also take aim at the problems and abysses of the time. To this day, his photographs fascinate with their unconventional technique and snapshot aesthetic. His more than twenty photo books and films had a strong influence on the style of subsequent generations of photographers such as Larry CLARK, Nan GOLDIN, or Wolfgang TILLMANS.
This photo volume, 'Camera in Love' is the most comprehensive survey of the work by Ed van der ELSKEN to date and accompanies the photographer and filmmaker's largest retrospective to date at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands." (© Prestel, 2017)
