Background information
"Photo book title 'Hong Kong Rubber Boots and Shoes' by Michael WOLF is the seventh volume in his series of books about Hong Kong's back alleys, with two more following posthumously to complete the massive cycle.
Content
The photo volume 'Hong Kong Rubber Boots and Shoes' by Michael WOLF contains color photographs of everyday objects such as pugs, gloves, carts, chairs, plants, clothes, umbrellas, etc. However, the German photographer, who made Hong Kong his adopted home until the end of his life, provides much more than snapshots. For him, Hong Kong's back alleys have long been a laboratory for exploring the behaviors, creativity and inventiveness of the city's inhabitants, which are reflected in the amazing variety of random arrangements. And so it is with the rubber boots and other footwear; it's not the shoes themselves that are special, but how they hang on hangers or next to fish on clotheslines, are placed on pipes, walls, window ledges, or are propped up to dry on broom handles and chair legs. 'Hong Kong Rubber Boots and Shoes' is really fun again, with rats scampering around our feet at the end." (slightly adapted text , © Hannes WANDERER, 2016)
