Background information
"The 150 images that make up this retrospective - and thus this catalog volume accompanying the exhibition - through the work of Alberto GARCÍA-ALIX reveal one of the most unique and fruitful paths of Spanish photography in the last quarter century. His creative experience - which includes 33 solo exhibitions since 1981 - unfolds in a kind of poetic narrative: that of his particular journey into the depths of the night. A permanent autobiographical determination drove him to document the chronicle of his time through a series of portraits, among which we often find self-portraits. Within his intense production, to which some one hundred thousand negatives bear witness, three approaches can be distinguished, corresponding, roughly speaking, to the last three decades of the twentieth century: the early period (1975-1982), to which most of his work in 35 millimeters belongs; then the 1980s, in which the maturity of a polished image composer can be seen, and the last, 1990s, which testify to the orientation of his gaze towards an increasingly cold perspective.
