Background information
"The Portuguese filmmaker Rui Xavier (*1974 in Porto, lives and works in Lisbon) accompanied and filmed the world-famous photo artist Candida HÖFER (*1944 in Eberswalde, lives and works in Cologne) for two years. Candida HÖFER, who studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Bernd and Hilla BECHER, became famous for her impressive photographs of libraries, museums, theaters and opera houses.Content
The film, which accompanies the book as a DVD, shows Candida HÖFER taking photographs, working in the studio and at home, and preparing exhibitions in locations as diverse as Düsseldorf, London and Sao Paulo. The result is a dense, empathetic portrait of the artist which, relying on its own visual language, manages without words.Images of the most important works by Candida HÖFER, her description of her collaboration with Rui Xavier, an introduction by Herbert Burkert as well as film stills and a text by Rui Xavier provide information on the creation and background of the film and the artist's work."
