Background information
"This
photo volume, 'American Geography' by Matt BLACK marks the culmination
of his long-term series, started in 2013. The Magnum photographer has
traveled the United States, over nearly 160,000 km, drawing up an
uncompromising inventory of America today by focusing more particularly
on these peripheral cities and the precariousness of everyday life
through powerful and meticulously composed black-and-white images. What
started as a story about isolated communities has over the years become
the portrait of an increasingly divided country where inequalities and
disparities are growing.
