"The series 'PHOTO' shows photography from its beginnings to today.
Each episode deals with a specific aspect of the history and evolution of photographic art.
The film series was based on an idea by Luciano RIGOLINI and was conceived and realized by Stan NEUMANN with the participation of Quentin BAJAC, the former director of photography at the Paris Center Pompidou and today's chief curator of the photographic collections of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York York.
Content of PHOTO Vol.3 (in chapters):
1. Intimacy in photography
Close, naked, intimate - in the 1960s, photographers no longer depict externals or objects, but focus on the inner life of man and his feelings.
The documentary features famous photographers dedicated to this subjective introspection, including Jacques Henri LIGIGUE, Nan GOLDIN and Lee FRIEDLANDER.
2. Finds
With photography, a new visual memory has emerged that consists of billions of images. Numerous photographers made use of this collection, collecting and alienating photos of others and making them the subject of their own art.
In the 1980s, the term 'Appropriation Art' emerged.
3. Conceptual photography
In the 1960s, artists use conceptual photography to try to give thoughts a new expression. Not with words, but with pictures concepts are to be presented.
Banal events are the focus of the cameras and are intended to depict abstract concepts. Painting and photography are beginning to staged and revolutionize each other.
4. The photograph after photography
In the 19th century, photography saw the light of day. Will she survive the 21st century?
This question was asked, among others, by Victor BURGIN, one of the pioneers of photoanalysis, in his work 'Adieu à la photographie' in the late 1980s. "(Publisher text)
Review:
"With the help of animation techniques, director Stan NEUMANN examines the photographs, turning each photo into a story, almost like a picture
small photographic drama, of which the finished picture represents only the last act.
From the inside, viewers are thus introduced to technical aspects such as cadres, lighting or photomontage processes."( CINEARTE)
