"The 21st century is proving to be a time of upheaval, a time when everything is being deconstructed. The engaging photography magazine 'The Eyes' documents cultural and social issues and questions them by giving carte blanche to experts who are directly affected by the topics covered. For this eleventh issue, 'The Eyes' invited artist and researcher SMITH and performer & curator Nadège Piton to create a subjective panorama on the place of photography in the construction of gender identities. In this new format, 'The Eyes' offers a unique edition that traces the intersecting paths within the grand transphotographic story.
The issue, 'Transgalactic. Photography. Gender. Transition' highlights a constellation of works and books by trans and/or queer artists who have influenced and inspired SMITH and Piton on their respective personal and artistic journeys. Supported by texts by philosopher Paul B. Preciado and art critic and historian Elisabeth Lebavici, the magazine explores a diversity of perspectives on photography, gender, and transition; a flood of authentic and moving testimonies that break gender stereotypes, delivered by artists such as CASSILS, Juliana HUXTABLE, Gabriel Garcia ROMAN, Laurence PHILOMÈNE, Annie SPRINKLE, Del LaGrace VOLCANO, Shu Lea CHARING, Sébastien LIFHSITZ." Especially interesting for photo book collectors are the references to photo books of the genre: next to a photo of the cover, a small summary and details about the book and publisher are provided!
