Background information
"The photo volume 'The Day May Break', photographed in Zimbabwe and Kenya in late 2020, is the first part of a global series in which Nick BRANDT portrays people and animals affected by environmental impacts and degradation. Due to climate change, the people in the photos had been displaced by hurricanes or years of drought, for example. Brandt photographed the animals pictured at five rescue centers. Despite their loss, these people and animals are the survivors. And therein lies opportunity and hope." (© Hatje Cantz Publishers, 2021)
Content
The photo volume 'The Day May Break' by Nick BRANDT contains about sixty b/w portraits of people and animals. "The rescued animals, which cannot be reintroduced to the wild, are now so trusting that humans & animals could be photographed in one picture. The unifying element is the artificial fog, intended to illustrate that we are increasingly in a kind of limbo, a once recognizable world now disappearing from view."
