About the African American photographer, Dawoud BEY (b.1953 in Jamaica)

Dawoud BEY, born David Edward Smikle, is a (portrait) photographer known for his large format color photographs of adolescents and very often marginalized people. He studied at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan in New York City in 1977/1978. In 1990 he received his BFA from Empire State College of the State University of New York and in 1993 he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of Art at Yale University. Dawoud BEY now resides in Chicago, Illinois and teaches at Columbia College Chicago.
