Background information
"The paperback catalog volume, 'Every Man is an Artist. Cosmopolitan Exercises with Joseph Beuys' to accompany the exhibition in Düsseldorf, offers in 13 chapters a profound insight into the cosmopolitan thinking of Joseph BEUYS as manifested in his actions, presented in the form of video projections and photographs. For it was there - as an acting, speaking and moving figure - that Joseph BEUYS explored the central and radical idea of his expanded concept of art: 'Everyone is an artist'. The aim of his universalistic approach was to renew society from the ground up. To this day, his influence can be felt in artistic and political discourses.
Content
In the exhibition and catalog volume, contemporary artists alongside representatives from the most diverse areas of society enter into a multi-layered, transcultural dialogue with the acting Joseph BEUYS. From today, they confirm, question and expand his theses on the possibilities of a future conceived from art.
