About the photographer Tina BARA (b.1962, in Kleinmachnow)

Tina BARA is a German photographer who was also active in the oppositional peace movement of the GDR. She studied history and art history at the Humboldt University in Berlin from 1980 to 1986 after graduating from high school. She was active in opposition groups, including 'Women for Peace'. In 1985 she had her first photo exhibition in the Kreis-Kulturhaus Berlin-Treptow. Since 1986 she worked as a freelance photographer as a member of the Association of Visual Artists, among others for the DEFA studio for documentaries like 'flüstern & SCHREIEN - Ein Rockreport'. In the same year, she began a correspondence course in photography at the Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts (HGB). In 1989 she moved to West Berlin. Since 1993 she has been a professor of artistic photography at the Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts.
