Photographic artist Lili ALMOG is known for her intimate spiritual portraits of the cultural identities of women from around the world. For her book of photographs, 'Betweenness,' she drew inspiration from the veiling practices of an extremist Jewish sect. By shifting the placement of the veil from its expected position in Islamic tradition, the Israeli emphasizes both the artistic representation of veiled women and the commonality and complexity of female nature. In a novel representation of the veil, she raises questions about freedom and faith and how these truths can coexist in modernity. Without judgment, the imagery invites the viewer to question how self-representation affects position and power." (© Kehrer Verlag, 2023)
