About the American photographer, Berenice ABBOTT (1898-1991)

Berenice ABBOTT left the United States in 1921 to study in Paris. Through MAN RAY, who hired her to be his assistant, she met Eugène ATGET. After his death, she acquired the remaining collection from the estate, published it in books and finally sold it to the Museum of Modern Art in New York. It is thanks to your work that Eugène ATGET has not been forgotten. In 1929 she returned to the United States and documented the rapid change in New York triggered by the construction boom of the 1930s. The 'Changing New York' series makes Berenice ABBOTT internationally famous. From the 1950s she devoted herself to scientific photography and developed new photographic techniques to make physical phenomena such as movement, waves, magnetic fields and crystal structures visible.
