"At first glance, the photographic overlays printed in black and brown offer no support, their flatness pointing deep into motif fragments: backyards, car tires, cable drums, dead tree stumps, rusty bedsteads or the outside wall of a hut with strange objects leaning against it.
The second glance separates the different levels of reality that interlock here - but time and again they collapse and readable photographic images become a painterly texture.
The artist band 'Swamp' is WOOL's fourth artist book in a series of four: First, the two volumes 'Road' and Westtexaspsychosculpture with photos of rough streets and sculpture-like objects in Texas environment, followed by 'Yard', where Christopher WOOL respectively two photographic realities superimposed.
In the book 'Swamp', WOOL goes one step further and develops a new image in the editing and reproduction process, for which the original view of the motif forms only the first building block. "(Publisher's text, © Holzwarth, 2019)
