Background information
"When German photographer Peter LINDBERGH photographed five young models, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Tatjana Patitz, Cindy Crawford and Christy Turlington, in downtown New York in 1989, he not only created the cover image of the January 1990 issue of British 'Vogue' that had become a cult favorite, but also ushered in the era of supermodels. The picture marked the beginning of a new age of fashion and a new understanding of female beauty.
His visual language, also in this volume '(A Different Vision) On Fashion Photography' is determined by a cinematic mode of expression and by the play with female archetypes. His photographs have an extremely high recognition value and have long since become classics and icons.
Content
Coinciding with his major retrospective at Kunsthal Rotterdam, '(A Different Vision) On Fashion Photography' by Peter LINDBERGH brings together over 400 images from four decades of his photography to pay tribute to his unique and revolutionary approach to fashion photography. His characteristically monochrome images, at once raw and seductive, are marked by a romantic and narrative gesture that gave a whole new impetus to the art and fashion worlds. In addition, this volume features Jean Paul Gaultier, Nicole Kidman, Grace Coddington, Cindy Crawford, and Anna Wintour, who once brought him on board for U.S. Vogue."
